When Sweden Water Expo takes place at Stockholmsmässan on 16–17 September, quality, competence and development within the water and wastewater sector will be in focus. One of the first-day programme sessions will address the Authorised Drain Jetting Technician scheme. Jakob Kesselberg, Chair of SSTT’s SPOL Working Group and co-owner of Vretmaskin, will explain why the industry needs clearer requirements for competence and quality of work.
Jetting pipes involves far more than simply clearing a blockage. It is a skilled trade where the right methods, equipment, safety practices and expertise are essential for delivering a high-quality result. The Authorised Drain Jetting Technician scheme, which has now been in place for two years, aims to establish a consistent and high level of competence across the industry. The authorisation is based on training, a knowledge test and documented professional experience.
For technicians carrying out the work, authorisation provides a clear way to demonstrate their competence. It establishes a common foundation for how the work should be performed and helps ensure a more consistent level of quality in the services delivered. For clients, the scheme offers reassurance. Clearer requirements and documentation make it easier to follow up on completed work and use the information as part of the ongoing maintenance of wastewater networks. When clients know what should be delivered and contractors understand the standards they are expected to meet, this creates better conditions for professional and long-term maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure.
During the session, Jakob Kesselberg will also present SSTT’s guide for clients on jetting wastewater pipes in the ground and within properties. The guide is available to download free of charge from the SSTT website.
