Sweden’s largest regional meeting place for the water and wastewater industry in Stockholm
A region in rapid development
Stockholm and Mälardalen are home to half of Sweden’s population and growth is expected to continue at a rapid pace. Being able to deliver a robust and reliable water and wastewater infrastructure in the region will be key to sustainable and safe development. Future new and reinvestment in the water and wastewater networks is therefore expected to be extensive, while community development needs to involve many different actors. To meet these needs, Stockholmsmässan has developed Sweden Water Expo, a new regional and industry-wide trade fair and meeting place for the water and wastewater sector.
A growing need for investment in water and wastewater systems
The investment needs in municipal water and wastewater facilities amount to more than SEK 500 billion by 2040 (Source: Swedish Water). Of this staggering sum, more than half is estimated to be needed for reinvestment in aged water and wastewater treatment plants and worn and damaged pipes. In the country’s fast-growing regions, extensive investments are needed.
A meeting place shaped together with the industry
The region is facing major future investments in water and wastewater networks, which need to go hand in hand with skills development and innovations. Stockholm is the country’s largest water and wastewater market and with our natural proximity to decision-makers and government officials regionally and nationally, we have a position that means that Sweden Water Expo will give exhibitors a major commercial impact. The initiative has been developed in close dialog with the industry and preceded by interviews with more than 100 Swedish water and wastewater managers who express their strong support for a meeting place in Stockholm.
