The Sustainable Development Goals are the most ambitious sustainable development agenda ever adopted by the world’s countries and are designed to achieve four great things by 2030: ending extreme poverty. To reduce inequalities and injustices in the world. To promote peace and justice. Solving the climate crisis.
The Sustainable Development Goals can make this a reality. Nordiska Trädgårdar contributes to these goals through a range of actions. We have chosen to focus on goals 12 and 15, which we feel are closest to us and where we can have the most impact.
Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources, but we humans have not used them responsibly and are now consuming far beyond what our planet can sustain. For example, did you know that 1/3 of the food produced is wasted? Achieving sustainable development requires us to reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources.
Sustainable consumption brings not only environmental benefits but also social and economic benefits such as increased competitiveness, growth in both local and global markets, increased employment, improved health and reduced poverty. Transitioning to sustainable consumption and production of goods is a necessity to reduce our negative impact on climate, environment and human health.

Goal 15 - Ecosystems and biodiversity
Through exhibitors and activities, we aim to educate and contribute to a more sustainable ecosystem and biodiversity:
- During the exhibition, there will be activities such as the National Birdhouse Championship and lectures on how to make your own soil, harvest water in your garden and how to grow cover crops.
- We work with associations and organizations that produce reports and information materials to increase biodiversity.
- In collaboration with Rölunda Gård, we are developing the Earth Square Meter exhibition to encourage the transformation of hard surfaces into an area with vegetation and life below and above ground.
- Sustainable ecosystems and biodiversity are the foundation of our life on Earth.
Meeting humanity’s needs for food, energy, water, minerals and raw materials without harming biodiversity and ensuring the sustainable use of ecosystem services is a crucial challenge for our survival.
- Terrestrial ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, drylands and mountains provide habitats for millions of species and clean air and water. Land degradation and deforestation lead to increased levels of greenhouse gases and threaten both the climate and the survival of animal species. For example, did you know that wild vertebrate populations have declined by 60% in 44 years? We are all part of the Earth’s ecosystem and all play an important role in maintaining habitats that ensure the survival of plant and animal species on land.
